Alumni Holiday Party and Art Exhibition

Holiday tableAll alumni, faculty and their guests are invited to celebrate the holiday season on Dec. 27 from 6 to 9pm at the Northrop campus. The Alumni Art Biennial Exhibition, featuring the work of Blake alumni artists, will be on display in the Upper School's Martha Bennett Gallery. Enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres, non-alcoholic beverages and a cash bar. Please register by Wednesday, Dec. 1.

David Isaacs '84, the first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president, talks about the UFC's first televised fight, an event that launched the industry 25 years ago, in this story for the Bleacher Report.

Kelly Morrison '87 will represent Minnesota House District 33B after defeating three-term Rep. Cindy Pugh in the general election.

Dean Phillips '87 won his bid to the U.S. Congress in Minnesota's Third District, defeating five-term incumbent Erik Paulsen.

Anne Marie Ruff Grewal '90 talks about returning to her hometown of Wayzata after living and working around the world in the September issue of Lake Minnetonka magazine.

World War I and the Student Experience

Northrop students engage in World War I preparation and relief projectsNov. 11 marked the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended the fighting between the Allied powers and Germany during World War I. As early as 1916, students at both Blake and Northrop engaged in activities related to war preparation and war relief. Learn more about what was happening at Blake and Northrop during World War I.

Boys' Soccer Wins State with Stunning Goal

Boys' soccer team

Blake Bears won the first boys' soccer state title since 2008 in a game that gained nationwide attention. After a scoreless 80 minutes of regulation play and one 10-minute overtime, Keegan James '21 scored the winning goal by kicking the ball 55 yards into the top right corner of the Bemidji Lumberjack's net. Girls' Tennis Wins Fourth Consecutive State Title

Notes and Reminders

Nominations for Board Committee Due Friday, Dec. 7

The Governance Committee of the Blake Board of Trustees seeks community members to serve on a committee beginning fall 2019. Committee members will learn about an area of the school and help enact the board's fiduciary and strategic functions at the committee level. Read about the qualities and experience sought in committee members. Nominations are invited for members who support the mission and strategic priorities of the school and who would bring active engagement, diverse perspectives and constructive participation to committee work. Individuals may recommend others or self-nominate. Nearly all trustees serve in a committee-only capacity before being considered for the board. Questions or nominations can be directed to Chief Advancement Officer Rebecca Schubring at 952-988-3432.
