Alumni Spotlight

Judy Bradford McConnell '52 has published a new book, "Dreamhouse," which tells the story of an ideal young suburban family wracked by the revolutionary upheavals that swept the country in the late '60s and early '70s.

When Blake 1983 classmates Lucy Nelson Langa, Maggie Linvill Smith and Ann Webster returned home for winter break of their freshman college year, the trio, along with their mothers, made a point of reuniting. Little did they know it would be the start of a tradition, one that celebrated a 35-year anniversary this year. Read "Standing Tea Time."

The editors and chefs at Epicurious recently named Mustard Girl All-American Stoneground Deli Mustard their favorite grainy brown mustard. Mustard Girl herself (aka Jennifer Connor '91) will be featured in the next issue of Cyrus, arriving in mailboxes later this winter.

The February issue of House Beautiful Magazine features a pillow collection from Meridian, a social enterprise home decor startup founded by Ashley Fenwick-Naditch Viola '98.

Eric Dayton's '99 men's shop in Minneapolis' North Loop is stepping up its charitable giving, pledging more than $1 million over the next five years to organizations fighting climate change. Read "Dayton Positions Askov Finlayson to Repay 110 Percent of Carbon Footprint Cost."

Instagram artist and digital marketer Lucy Litman '08 is creating Pantone color swatches using food's natural and cooked-up colors. Read more about her #PantonePosts.

In addition to becoming an internet sensation after posting a video of himself skating down an ice-covered road, Zach Doerring '12 is also tearing it up on the ice for Concordia's men's hockey team

Dani Cameranesi '13 was named to the U.S. Women's Olympic Hockey Team and will compete next month in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Student Raises Money to Cure Leukemia

Julia Lucas '20 (daughter of Brian Lucas '86) was featured on KARE 11 News, where she talked about her goal to raise $50,000 in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Julia's mother, Betsy Lucas, was diagnosed with blood cancer when Julia was 3 years old. Betsy has been cancer-free for 12 years, and Julia hopes to help other families have the same positive outcome.

Finding Common Ground

The National Association of Independent Schools wrote about Blake's sixth grade humanities classes in a post on the organization's blog, Inspiration Lab. The curriculum encourages students to examine global issues first by studying themselves, then by delving into others' perspectives.
