Virtually every day since Christmas Eve 2015, Andrea Carla Eisenberg Michaels '76 has been handing out slices of pizza to people experiencing homelessness in San Francisco. She has been dubbed "The Pizza Lady" by her recipients. Read more in "Two feed the hungry, differently, as their hearts ache."

Douglas Smith's '81 latest book, "Rasputin: Faith, Power and the Twilight of the Romanovs" made The Sunday Times summer reading list of the 50 Best Non-Fiction Books for the Beach. Watch your mailbox later this summer for the next issue of Cyrus, which will feature a cover story on Doug.

The Jewish Community Foundation of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation has hired Alene Grossman Sussman '95 as its director. Alene formerly practiced law as an in-house attorney at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. Prior to that, she worked at the law firm of Dorsey and Whitney LLP as a litigator.

Poppy Harlow '01 shares her ode to Minnesota in a video series created by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine and presented by Explore Minnesota. Watch My North: 52 Minnesota Stories.

Michael Olson '01 and his band, Lake Street Dive, appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where they performed the song "Close To Me," off their latest album "Side Pony."

Nathan Ratner '05 was one of 16 medical students in the world, and the sole representative of the United States, selected to participate in Elsevier Hacks. Working with developers and designers in an innovative workspace in Helsinki, Finland, Nathan and the other participants will design and build solutions to solve challenges in medical education.

Dan Walden '06, an openly gay Catholic currently in graduate school at the University of Michigan, shared his views in an article on Vox about an Illinois bishop who says gay Catholics shouldn't get Catholic funeral rites.

World Travelers Return to Blake Transformed

Twenty-six Blake Upper School students recently returned from a three-week global immersion experience in Cuba and Vietnam, made possible through the Higgins Family Global Education Fund. Watch a student-produced video documenting the group's travels in Vietnam and find photos on Flickr.

Boys' Golf Wins Third Consecutive State Title

The boys' golf team successfully defended its 2015 and 2016 Class AA titles with another victory at this year's state tournament. Derek Hitchner '18 led the Blake individuals, shooting a 73 and a 70 over the two days and placing fifth overall. Read more
