Matt Flores ’01 works with Best Buy Corporation and resides in Uptown Minneapolis where he regularly meets up with his fellow Blake classmates. Matt realized his 15 minutes of fame as a high school junior when he was crowned homecoming king. Learn more about Matt in this month’s Bear Pause.

Announcing the 2016 Alumni Award Recipients

The Alumni Board Recognition and Nominations Committee is proud to announce the recipients of this year's alumni awards. Blake congratulates Outstanding Alumnus of the Year John Crosby '53, Young Alumna of the Year Ashley Fenwick-Naditch Viola '98, Alumnus Athlete of the Year Jon Foss '83 and the Jenny Stephens Hagen Spirit Award recipient Dion Crushshon '88.

Ashley will be the featured speaker at the Reunion Edition of Breakfast at Blake, where Jon and Dion will also be recognized. Alumnus of the Year John Crosby will be recognized during the November Breakfast at Blake at which he will be the featured speaker. We look forward to honoring all of this year's award recipients at these events.

Alumni Spotlight

Marcia McNutt ’70 has officially become the president of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the latest in a long list of accomplishments for the geophysicist, many of them a first for a woman. Read more

Chan Poling ’75 and his trio, the New Standards, performed at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis where they were backed by the Minnesota Orchestra throughout the nearly two-hour show. Read more

Thomas Winston’s ’95 production company, Grizzly Creek Films, has been nominated at the Science Media Awards & Summit for its History Channel show, “Secret Earth: Yellowstone Supervolcano.” Host Craig Beals gets the nod in the Science Ambassador category.

Maxine Kaye Bédat ’01 was named by Oprah Winfrey and the Oprah Winfrey Network to the Super Soul 100, a list of the 100 most inspiring leaders. Read more

Libby MacFarlane ’04 was named by Poets & Quants as one of the 100 World’s Best and Brightest MBAs in the Class of 2016. She completed a dual-master's degree at Duke University and currently works at UnitedHealth Group as director of product development - Optum. Read more

Cuba Global Immersion

Blake students and faculty embarked on the school's inaugural summer global immersion experience in Cuba. The experience included 21 days of travel, as well as pre- and post-travel coursework and reflection. Check out photos, videos and reflections from their trip.

Cyrus Summer 2016

The latest issue of Blake's magazine, Cyrus, is now available online. Our Summer 2016 issue features a cover story on Nina Hale '85 ("Agent of Her Own Design," pg. 6). In 2005, Nina founded Minnesota's largest search engine marketing agency, which she recently sold to her employees. She discusses her unique career path, the evolution of her agency and her new role within it. We also talked with Rory Taylor '14, a Pomona College student helping fellow Native American youth pursue higher education ("Champion of Change," pg. 18).
